Bob Avey’s 2nd Quarter 2023
Newsletter
On
June 20, 2023, I managed to gather my senses and deliver a presentation to the
Tulsa NightWriters, a writing club that I have been a member of for
thirty-three years. As I explained how using our own life experiences can
enhance the writing of a story or novel by focusing the elements of fiction
through a thematic adhesive, it occurred to me that I truly had been following
my own advice all along. When viewed through such a lens, the titles of my
novels seem almost prophetic but are probably more correctly just indicative of
the moods and phases of life I was going through.
Life
is a journey and I believe that God uses this life and its experiences to make
us ready for the next life. Through our joining the Church and drawing closer
to God, Kathi and I were drawing closer to each other. Our love had begun to
blossom into the flower that it was during the later phases of our marriage and
could have been for the entire fifty years.
When
I think of Kathi, I am reminded of a song, Vincent (Starry Starry Night), by
Don McLean. In the song, Mr. McLean so beautifully states, speaking of Vincent
Van Gogh, that “I could have told you Vincent, that this life was never meant
for anyone as beautiful as you.”
But
I honorably disagree with Mr. McLean, whom I believe to be an excellent artist.
I, and speaking of my sweet Kathi, have
to say that this life was meant exactly for someone as beautiful as you. Kathi
was an example for the rest of us of what unconditional love looks like. I am blessed
to have been allowed to share fifty years of my life with such a wonderful
person.
God
has a purpose for everyone and it is time for me to try and move forward and
seek to find and fulfill God’s purpose for the remainder of my life. I am struggling with this. I ask for your
prayers and I offer you mine.
