I
was recently inducted into the Tulsa NightWriters—a Tulsa based writing club
that I’ve been a member of since 1990— Hall of Fame, even managing to muster up
the courage to attend the meeting on February 21 to receive the beautiful
wooden plaque presented to me. I sincerely thank the club for this honor.
Even
before this, I was approached by the club to give a presentation—not related to
the induction— and, during a strong moment, I agreed to a speaking engagement
for the June 2023 meeting. Now I’m terrified because I’m not sure if I can live
up to the expectations of the club and pull it off. I haven’t had a public
speaking engagement in about six or seven years. I’ve lived a lot of life since
then. I imagine it is a bit like learning how to walk again after a severe
injury. For me, dealing with the past few years, after my sweet wife Kathi went
to be with the Lord, has been similar to coping with Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder. I was blessed, beyond my ability to convey the feeling, by having
spent fifty years with such a wonderful person. I have been stumbling around,
trying to find my way since she went home. My faith in God, and knowing that my
family needs me, has kept me going.
